Completed in 2003, Love is installed in the landscaped courtyard of the Xingfu Jiayuan residential community in Beijing.

The sculpture draws inspiration from a sign-language gesture associated with love. Two monumental hands curve inward and overlap, forming a rounded, enclosing structure. A small engraved symbol on the surface further refers to the work’s central theme.

Carved from granite, the sculpture retains a slightly rough, tactile surface while softening the mass of the stone through rounded contours. The interlocking hands create an impression of holding, sheltering, and mutual support.

Unlike a distant monument, the work is positioned close to the ground and at a scale that encourages people to approach, touch, lean against, and move around it. Its meaning is therefore expressed not only through symbolism, but also through physical contact with residents.

Placed within a residential community named “Xingfu Jiayuan,” meaning “Happy Home,” the sculpture connects the idea of love with everyday experiences of family, care, and shared life.
