Completed in 2007, Scenic Connections is installed in Qingdao Music Square. The work was created in connection with the Second Tourism Ministers’ Meeting among China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, held in Qingdao that year.

The sculpture takes the film strip as its central visual element. Several broad stainless-steel ribbons rise, twist, and loop through space, forming an open composition that can be viewed from different directions.

The surfaces are divided into vivid areas of red, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Perforations along the edges reinforce the appearance of film, while engraved images refer to landscapes and cultural features associated with the three countries.

In the work, the film strip performs two functions: it carries images of tourism and also becomes a continuous spatial line linking different places. The overlapping ribbons suggest movement, exchange, and the circulation of people and images across national boundaries.

Set within Qingdao’s coastal public space, the sculpture transforms the theme of regional tourism cooperation into a colourful, open, and dynamic structure.
