Completed in 1999 for the first-phase renovation of Beijing’s Wangfujing Commercial Street, this large-scale copper relief plaque served as a prominent visual marker for the pedestrian district.
Three raised golden Chinese characters, “王府井,” are set against a blue central panel. The surrounding copper relief combines openwork and high-relief techniques to depict vendors, merchants, pedestrians, and historic shop signs associated with old Beijing.
Integrating traditional folk-carving language with a modern architectural façade, the work functions both as urban signage and as a visual record of Wangfujing’s commercial history.
本大型铜浮雕牌匾落成于1999年，是北京王府井商业街一期改造工程中的标志性公共艺术作品。
牌匾中央蓝色底板上设置立体金色“王府井”三字，外围紫铜浮雕结合透雕与深浮雕手法，呈现旧时商贩、往来行人、老字号商号等老北京商业生活图景。
作品将传统民间雕刻语言融入现代建筑立面，既承担街区识别功能，也保存了王府井商业历史的城市记忆。
