2009 · Jingang Road, Dalian Free Trade Zone, Dalian Painted Stainless Steel and Steel · Landmark Sculpture Height: 19 m Created in 2009, Streaming In is a large-scale landmark sculpture installed on Jingang Road, at the junction of the Dalian Free Trade Zone, the bonded port area, and the Dayaowan port district. The work was developed in connection with China Maritime Day activities held in Dalian that year.

The sculpture is constructed from sixty brightly coloured container forms bearing the markings of international shipping companies. The containers are stacked, tilted, and interlocked into a rising circular structure, transforming standardised units of maritime transport into a dynamic sculptural mass.

Rather than arranging the containers in the orderly manner of a port yard, the work releases them from the horizontal grid. They rotate, gather, and surge upward like a continuous stream—or a school of fish entering the harbour one after another—giving visual form to the Chinese title Yu Guan Er Ru.

A monumental anchor and heavy chain stand beside the colourful structure. The dark, weathered industrial forms contrast with the vivid containers: one side suggests weight, stability, and maritime tradition, while the other conveys circulation, speed, and the expanding movement of global trade.

The sixty container units refer to the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Through the combination of port machinery, commercial symbols, and abstract movement, the sculpture records a period when container transport and international logistics were rapidly reshaping Dalian’s coastal landscape.
