This sculpture marks one of the earliest uses of perforated stainless steel in Chinese public sculpture, introducing lightness and transparency into a traditionally solid medium.
Inspired by the name Dengshikou (“Lantern Market”), the work integrates lighting design with the organic form of ginkgo leaves. Through its mesh structure, light penetrates the surface, dissolving mass and allowing the sculpture to shift between material presence and immaterial glow.
Rather than asserting monumentality, the work constructs an atmosphere. It operates as both an urban memory of historic Wangfujing and a metaphor for sustained vitality—where commerce, history, and illumination coexist within a continuously activated public space.
