Conceived as a large-scale public sculpture rooted in local folklore, Princess of the Mackerel Bay draws from a regional legend associated with Bayuquan’s coastal identity.
Rising directly from the sea, the female figure lifts a spherical form above her head, merging mythological imagery with monumental scale. The work’s primary challenge lay not in symbolism, but in realization: offshore construction, structural stability, and installation within a marine environment became central components of the sculpture’s meaning.
Rather than functioning solely as a commemorative monument, the project marks a shift toward an exploration of body, environment, and engineering. The sculpture exists in continuous dialogue with water, weather, and distance—where myth is sustained not through narration, but through physical persistence within a volatile natural setting.
