This public sculpture takes the visual structure of New Youth magazine from the May Fourth period as its core composition. Text, portraits, and historical time are juxtaposed to symbolize the moment when modern thought was awakened and history began to turn.
The flame form placed in the foreground refers to the idea that “a single spark can start a prairie fire,” suggesting both the spread of the May Fourth spirit and the historical process by which ideas grow from the marginal to the transformative.
Rather than reconstructing history, this work spatializes the question of how thought is initiated, transforming ideological awakening into a physical and architectural experience.
