Sculptural structures evolved through deliberately manipulated software failures.
Structural BUG Art is the overarching artistic framework of my current digital sculpture practice. Software failure is deliberately induced and actively manipulated so that sculptural structure can continue to evolve.
For more than thirty years, I have worked in sculpture, moving from public sculpture and urban monuments to digital sculpture, virtual bodies, and system-based image generation. I founded the Beijing Digitalized Sculpture Association and served as its founding president for ten years.
This path began with form, material, volume, and public space. Over time, the work moved away from the single finished object and toward structure, repetition, transformation, and long-term operation.
I was never only shaping form. I was approaching structure.
Now I no longer create single works as isolated objects. I build systems.
VOID & BUG is an ongoing project within Structural BUG Art. VOID and BUG come from the same source body, but move toward two different outcomes. VOID dissolves the form. BUG corrupts the form. One moves toward reduction, silence, and emptiness. The other moves toward error, rupture, mutation, and excess.
This is not a portfolio. This is a running structure.
SQ-SHI — SYSTEM is the current form of this long process: a digital sculpture system, an archive in progress, and a visible record of how form enters emptiness, error, market, memory, and time.

SQ-SHI — SYSTEM
DIGITAL SCULPTURE|
I understand digital sculpture not as the use of digital tools to imitate clay, but as a sculptural language born through digital generation itself. Form is no longer shaped by matter alone; it emerges through replication, displacement, mutation, rupture, and reconstruction. My works may remain as memories of the digital era—situated after traditional sculpture and before the age of fully AI-generated form.

PUBLISHED ESSAY|
In May 2026, I published the essay The Misconception of Digital Sculpture: Beyond Technical Innovation, New Artistic Concepts Are Needed on Yachang Art Network.
In this essay, I argued that the value of digital sculpture does not lie in using new tools to reproduce traditional sculptural forms. Its real significance lies in generating a new artistic language, a new spiritual dimension, and new modes of creation for the digital age.
This position also informs my digital sculpture practice and the ongoing project VOID & BUG within Structural BUG Art.
